OSRAM lamps light up the retail world

More efficiency and light power for shop lighting

OSRAM’s Light-Consultant at www.osram.com/Light-Consultant demonstrates how one can set new trends in shop lighting while also saving energy. Whether metal halide lamps with patented POWERBALL technology, cutting edge metal halide and compact fluorescent lamps or tiny but powerful LEDs - all offer extraordinary light quality combined with maximum efficiency.

With OSRAM’s POWERBALL HCI lamps, every shop is presented in the best light. Retail area lighting is particularly “cool” with the POWERBALL HCI-TF. In spite of its low 20W output and minimal electricity consumption, it provides an extraordinary quantity of light, yet radiates little heat. In addition, its narrow diameter means that small and efficient reflectors can be used - for even more cost-effective shop lighting. Shop windows on the other hand are turned into real eyecatchers with the POWERBALL HCI-R111. This lamp looks like a classic halogen spotlight but produces considerably more light and also cuts energy consumption by 80%.

OSRAM LEDs light the way

A real all-rounder for shop lighting is the powerful COINlight-OSTAR LED module, which can be easily integrated into standard luminaires thanks to its MR16 reflector. The COINlight-OSTAR’s bright white light is also ideal as orientation lighting. Fitted with only one OSTAR-Lighting LED, it burns as brightly as a halogen lamp but uses only half the electricity and has a considerably longer functional life of up to 30,000 hours. The additional COINlight-OSTAR heat sink further increases its functional life to up to 50,000 hours.

Climate protection in a new light

POWERBALL lamps and the COINlight-OSTAR also convince from an economic point of view. As OSRAM’s Online Light-Consultant shows, only 32 luminaires fitted with POWERBALL HCI-T lamps (35W) are required to light a three metre high retail area of 70sqm - around 70 fewer than are needed when standard 50W halogen lamps are used. Assuming an average burning time of 16 hours per day, this means that annual electricity consumption is reduced by 19,000 kilowatt hours and at an electricity tariff of EUR 0,15 per kilowatt hour costs are cut to around EUR 2,810 per annum. In addition, 9,500kg less CO2 is produced. Where high-performance LED modules such as the COINlight-OSTAR are used instead of standard halogen lamps for shelf lighting, around 50% less electricity is consumed. For an area of 2 x 0.5 metres and a burning time of 16 hours per day, this corresponds with a cost reduction from EUR 88 to just under EUR 44. And the environment benefits because annual carbon dioxide emissions are halved from 150kg to 72kg. The practicable energy saving of the type of lamp provides the Calculation basis for the reduction of CO2 emissions. It is converted with an energy mix of 0.5kg per kilowatt hour.
